Happy New Year from all of us here at the Theater Barn!
The New Year here at the Theater Barn is off and running. Three exciting events in January began with a Playwrights Discussion Group focusing on the work of Tennessee Williams. Next up - our comedy Improv show Whose Barn is it Anyway?, followed closely by Blue's Clues, The Most Spectacular Place as part of our Theater for Young Audience program. The excitement continues in February with A Night of One Acts - an introduction to the work of modern playwright David Ives. Our next main stage production, A Moon for the Misbegotten by Eugene O'Neill, opens in March. Visit our website http://www.ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org/ for tickets and more information about all of these and other events.
Construction is set to begin during the first quarter of 2010 on the completion of our new rehearsal space under the Gallery in the new addition. Funding has been secured and construction drawings completed. A schedule of work is being developed to avoid impact on other events happening here at the theater. This much needed space will serve as storage for lumber, flats and set pieces as well as offering a rehearsal space nearly the size of the stage. This is a luxury few community theaters can afford and will allow us to continue our ambitious schedule of programming for the entire family.
We are an organization run completely by volunteers. The Board of Directors wants to recognize some outstanding volunteers for the jobs they do and instituted a Volunteer of the Month program. Our first recipient, Cheryl Evans (November 2009), joined us as the set decorator for Beyond Therapy earlier this season. Pamme Jones (December 2009) has been involved with the theater for many years. She currently is our box office manager and decorated the house and gallery area for our production of Godspell. Thank you to both of these individuals for their dedication to the theater.
Are you looking for something to do this winter? With over 30 weekends of performances in our 44th Season there is always a need for more volunteers. Opportunities abound so let us know what you are interested in and how much time you have and we can find a way for you to take part in bringing quality theater to the Ridgefield area. It truly is a rewarding experience to know that you helped create a work of art.
Come be a part of the action - where art meets life!
