Synopsis:
Set in a courtroom in New York's Bellevue Hospital, the story follows a high-priced call girl incarcerated on a charge for killing a violent "john". A court appointed psychiatrist and an aggressive prosecutor say Claudia Faith Draper is unfit to stand trial for manslaughter. As testimony from experts, physicians and her parents unfolds, Claudia's psyche and childhood are dissected, and she must prove that she isn't "nuts," but legally sane to stand trial.

Background:
Nuts opened at the Biltmore Theater in NY on April 28, 1980 to critical success, and ran for 96 performances. Tom Topor used his years of experience as a journalist covering NYC police stations, courtrooms, and psychiatric hospital wards to create the play. The actual plot is based on a true incident reported in the 1970's.
Awards:
Anne Twomey (Claudia) won the Theatre World Award and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play.
Reviews:
"Nuts is a play that moves you...you are in court watching a woman fight for what she believes is her total future." New York Post
